appreciate the art of Universal Design

For the past ten years I've been an ardent devotee of the
principles of Universal Design.

Having the pleasure of working with talented architects and interior designers in this field, I've come to appreciate the art of Universal Design even more.
The opportunity to stay in a home or location you already love is an increasing option for aging adults. If you're building a retirement or second home, why not add the options of easy living design to age in place?

I've been fortunate to work with Mary Jo Peterson, one of the most respected Kitchen and Bath Designers in the country and an author of numerous books on this subject. (Go to Builderbooks.com.) Some years back, we began to collaborate on presentations for the NAHB. She spoke on design, while I addressed helpful strategies to building professionals on how to present Universal Design elements to clients and homeowners.

When the time came for me to look at remodeling my own home, it was a chance to walk-the-talk. Mary Jo was my inspiration designer for the front-end planning process. As I moved forward, I partnered with Laurel Phipps and Heather Kardos of Laurel Design Group in Sarasota and the highly respected design/build contractor John King, President of Rampart Homes. John has been President of our local Sarasota BIA

and named Florida Remodeler of the Year. We all felt the story was too compelling to pass up, so we made the decision to professionally film the remodel as we went along.

This DVD is the result and incorporates two filmed chapters, first the story and second the planning process. Mary Jo and I have added the PowerPoint presentation that we've given at NAHB conferences and KBD seminars to guide you through the process. She offers design and resources while I provide marketing ideas and specific scripts for assisting sales people in talking to clients.

This video will give you the opportunity to assist clients and help you as a professional to define your homes and give your company or professional practice a USP - Unique Selling Premise.

We've also included some of the suggested components and products used in my remodel to see you through the process of building or remodeling a home that will help homeowners live in a gracious setting with ease to happily transition into the "mature years." Enjoy the video and the many benefits of Universal Design to capture the active adult market.

Sincerely,
Tracy Lux, CAASH, CSP, SHMS
